Flight for Excellence-A-Net Scholars

Motivating students to do their best is always a challenge. But recently the administrative team and board members can up with a unique way to do just that!

What if students were offered the opportunity to fly over the city, with landmarks like FCWCS, the Superdome, the Crescent City Bridges, and the Mississippi River, a few 1000 feet below them?

That offer went out to 5th, 6th, and 7th graders during the last Achievement-Network (A-Net) Test of this academic year. Board of Directors member Al Edwards (of Ely Edwards Enterprises) offered this unique tour to 30 scholars in his Piper aircraft.

What a fantastic way to see the city–soaring academically and literally above the Crescent City during their Flight for Excellence!

Young Warriors Brass Band Premieres

Young Warriors Brass Band Premieres

The Young Warriors Brass Band competed in the recent New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Foundation Brass Band competition on Sunday, March 25th. Fifteen bands from the area competed in an effort to keep the brass band tradition going in the city.

Our newly formed band performed admirably. We did not win, but the band did earn $750.00 to spend toward a new instrument or two. Congratulations to the Young Warrior Brass Band and their directors, Misters Petit, Webster, and Vaughn.
