State Superintendent of Education John Whited visited our campus on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.

The visit was to conduct a Q & A session with early childhood providers in Orleans and Jefferson parishes. He also utilized the time to observe the Pre-K classes of FCWCS teachers Tali Guidry and Shawn Tolliver.

Rotary Club of New Orleans Distributes Reference Books

Warriors in our three fourth grade classes were the recent recipients of reference books, courtesy of the local Rotary Club of New Orleans (District 6840). This marks the third year that the organization has been so generous to our scholars.

Each student was given an atlas and a dictionary for their personal use. Students have been learning the proper use of the dictionary and the atlas in their core classes, so these books will become excellent additions to their home libraries.

Thank you Rotary Club for your generosity.

Celebrating Our Legacy through the Arts

Our Annual Black History Celebration

Celebrating Our Legacy through the Arts

The entire month of February was spent expounding on the contributions of African Americans to life in the United States, especially those who contributed so much to the richness of American life in the arts–theater, literature, visual arts, dance, movies, and music.

Students were instructed in how the idea of Black History Month originally evolved (Carter G. Woodson’s idea) and the origins of the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” (originally a poem by James Weldon Johnson).

Special Guest at this year’s program was New Orleans drummer Sullivan Dabney, Jr. and the Muzik Jazz Band.

Our celebration also had classroom doors decorated honoring Black History Month. The winners of the door contest were: 1st Place Ms. S. Tolliver, Rm. 1202, 2nd Place Ms. A. Jones, Rm. 1101, and 3rd Place Ms. A. Singleton, Rm. 1203.

Our resident artists–Mr. P. Britt, Mrs. K. LeBlanc, and Mrs. S. Jones–supplied the beautiful backdrop for our stage production based upon the 1st place t-shirt design of students Jamonnie Cornelius, Donnell Robertson, Jamil Bovia, and Byron Hall.
