Dear Parents/Guardians

As part of our Board of Directors (C.L.A.S.S.) and the school’s administration efforts to keep you informed, my message this month is in regards to the charter renewal process for the 2021-2022 school-year.

Our school, Fannie C. Williams Charter, will be in the renewal cycle in two years (2021-2022). NOLA Public Schools will also reach out to you soon to notify you of this important item on our upcoming calendar.

When we first started as a charter, we were governed by the Recovery School District. As of July 1, 2018, all charter schools are under NOLA Public Schools (OPSB). As part of our New Orleans Public School System, all charter schools participate in a routine evaluation process during the last year of their charter operating agreement, which is usually referred to as “renewal.” The operating agreement is between the school’s charter governing board (C.L.A.S.S.) and the Orleans Parish School Board.

The OPSB will use the Charter School Accountability Framework as the foundation to make its decision regarding our renewal. There will also be a review as to how well we have compiled with federal, state, local laws and policy. Our school performance score (SPS–56.2, D; 2017-2018) will also be paramount in this renewal effort.

Parents can get additional information about OPSB’s renewal standards at the link listed below:
This link belongs to the Charter School Accountability Framework (see pages 5-8).

As always, we appreciate your entrusting your child(ren) with us. We will continue to collaborate with parents and the community to make FCWCS a positive place to learn and grow for all children in our care.

Cam Jordan Visits FCWCS

Early Tuesday morning–the morning after the opening game of the season–Cam Jordan of the New Orleans Saints came to Warrior Land. Mr. Jordan, #94 to all Saints fans, brought a message. That message was not about football, but about the value of an education.

Anyone watching the Monday night game, knows that #94 and his teammates had a hard, but productive night against the Houston Texans. That was one heck of a game! The victory, 30-28, included five tackles and one sack by Mr. Jordan. He could have slept in a little later, but instead he was at FCWCS stressing the importance of learning to read, doing homework, and preparing for the future.

The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in attendance had all eyes on Mr. Jordan–at 6’4″ he was hard to miss! An animated speaker, he held his audience of more than 100 kids spellbound for almost one hour.

Thank you to Mr. Jordan and the New Orleans Saints for the visit! Your message heard and well received.

We are inviting the entire community–far and wide–to be a member of the 2nd Annual Warrior 3K Bubble Run/Walk. The event will be held at Fannie C. Williams Charter School on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 9 am. We are located at 11755 Dwyer Road (at Bullard) in New Orleans East.

Our goal is to raise money for the 2019-2020 Warrior Athletic Program. Our school currently sponsors flag football, volleyball, basketball (boys and girls), and cross country. FCWCS is a member of the MMSL (Metro Middle School League). Our school also partners with Joe Brown Park and the Red Cross to teach each semester about 30-40 children how to swim.
