Our partners with Communities in Schools–CIS, (Ms. Vanessa Batiste-Leal, Site Coordinator) have arranged a great opportunity for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grades students to participate in a Jazz Concert Performance series.
The first “lesson” of three, took place on January 27 in the Warrior Gym. Students were treated to some of the finest musicians from New Orleans and New York–playing traditional jazz and telling the story of this unique American art form that had its beginnings in our city.
The experience is to expose and expand the cultural experiences of our students. Follow up performances are scheduled in March and May. What a great way to finish off the school day!
